• Skylar Finch, a theatre arts management and Spanish double major from Polk City, will portray the characters, Mrs. Clackett/Dotty, in Buena Vista University Theatre’s presentation of Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off,” April 26-28, at 7:30 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium.


• Madeleine McCormick from Huxley, a senior digital media major at Buena Vista University, received the following awards in the annual Society for Collegiate Journalists (SCJ) national media contest:


- Radio News Package — First place: “The Face of Activism;” Second place: “Politics of Fear: What are we so afraid of? Immigration”


- Continuing Coverage — First place: “BVU Students Take a Knee During National Anthem; Receive Public Pushback” (Madeleine McCormick and Kylee Deering)


- News Writing — Second place: “BVU President Responds to Trump Action to Rescind DACA”


• Cheyanne Chesley of Polk City has been inducted into the Graceland University chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the international English honor society. Candidates for Sigma Tau Delta must have a strong interest in the study of English, an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and at least 12 credits (semester hours) in English with an average of at least a 3.0 GPA or better.


• DMACC student Brandon Cory of Polk City received an Award of Excellence at the 60th annual Art Directors Association of Iowa Design Exhibition recently held at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines. Cory received the Best of Video Spots Category/Promotional Animation/Pendulum.
