The Ballard MATHCOUNTS team competed in the central Iowa regional competition Feb. 13 in Ankeny. The contest is for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students.
Ballard did very well, finishing ninth out of 39 schools, and won the trophy for most improved team. All the teams ahead of Ballard were from larger schools.
Team members were Ian Godbold , Kate Huisinga, Josh Loveland and Maximus Andersen. Competing as individuals were those four, along with Stephen Lawler, Rachel Huisinga, Jakson Fleishmann, Adelaide Crisler, Austin Shoen and Avelyn Vance. Competing as alternates were Jaxson Miller, Vanessa Nop, Zach Horness and Sabrina Wright. Also on the team, but unable to attend, were Mylie Miller and Gunnar Peterson.
Coach Carr was extremely pleased with the team’s performance. With only one eighth-grader on this year’s team, next year could be even better.
