In a continued quest to help raise money to fund the research for a cure for cystic fibrosis, the CF team of Charlie’s Angels conducts several events during the year. In gearing up for 2018, members of the team came up with a new event idea.
A 24-hour indoor “Bike-A-Thon.”
The event will be held at the Hotel Pattee in Perry, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 and ending at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24. According to the mastermind of the event, Mike Knox of Huxley, the event will feature teams and individuals riding on stationary trainers, which will be provided by Bike World.
“We met Charlie a couple of years ago. She is a beautiful little girl that fights cystic fibrosis every hour of every day — she doesn’t know any different. But we do,” explains Knox. “Each one of us needs to care about each other, at some level. After meeting Charlie, and understanding the struggles, we couldn’t help but want to give a little of ourselves in order to try and make a difference for her. Our passion is bicycling, and to join that passion with our passion to help Charlie only makes sense. Of course, we also want to bring awareness to this disease.”
Knox added that the bottom line is that they want to send funds to Cystic Fibrosis Iowa Foundation for research dollars that will stay right here in Iowa. These funds will help to fund the research taking place at the University of Iowa Cystic Fibrosis Research Center. This center is the only research center working for a cure. Most research is for helping to deal with the terrible disease and that, too, is necessary. We’re fighting for Charlie and a cure to be found.
Both individuals and teams are welcome to participate. Any number of members on a team is allowed. There is no set registration fee, although it is asked that a donation be made.
Participants will be recognized for miles ridden, and funds raised will be donated in their name. A team of guest celebrities will be riding as well.
“We are asking anyone and everyone that wants to help us, contact Mike Knox at 515-290-5659 or email Bananas@BananasRus.com,” he added. “We will respond to every contact as soon as possible. Come and ride for 10 minutes…an hour…several hours… overnight…or perhaps the whole 24 hours. We’ll have drawings, entertainment, music, contests… Please help us help Charlie.”
