10/1: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at a residence on Highway 69 south of Huxley for the Story County Sherriff’s Department. The altercation was verbal and parties were separated for the remainder of the night.


10/2: Officer responded to a residence at the 100 block of National Drive to assist parents with an out-of-control child. The officer assisted the parent and the juvenile was transported to the hospital for treatment.


10/4: Officer responded to a single vehicle accident on Highway 69 near Timberlane. A vehicle operated by a Rockford, Ill., man had minimal if any damage to his truck after becoming high centered on the crest of the intersection.


10/5: Officer was asked to check the welfare of a 22-year-old Huxley resident at the 100 block of Oak Blvd. Contact was made and the male agreed to transport to the hospital for treatment.


10/6: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at the 500 block of E. Fourth between a Huxley resident and her 29-year-old daughter. The altercation was verbal and both parties agreed that they could cohabitate for the remainder of the night with no further problems.


10/10: Officer responded to the Ballard Middle School parking lot for a vehicle that was damaged by another motorist opening her car door and putting a dent in the victim’s vehicle. Information exchange was done by the officer.


10/12: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at the 200 block of Oak Blvd. The altercation was verbal and both parties agreed that they could cohabitate for the remainder of the night with no further problems.


10/16: Officer responded to a single vehicle accident on 560th north of Highway 210 for the Story County Sherriff’s Department. A vehicle travelling northbound slid on loose gravel and went into the ditch, causing approximately $4,000 in damage. The driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. Officer responded to a single vehicle accident for the Story County Sherriff’s Department on Oak Bend Road near 560th. A vehicle operated by a Cambridge juvenile was driving too fast and slid off into the ditch, causing approximately $500 in damage. No injuries. Officer cited a Huxley driver for school bus arm violation on Highway 69 and Centennial Drive.


10/17: Officer responded to a domestic altercation at the 500 block of E. Fourth Street. The altercation was verbal and the male half elected to stay with his aunt in Des Moines for the rest of the night.


10/18: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 69 near Highway 210. The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old Slater man, was issued a .02 violation. Officer received a hit-and-run report at the 300 block of E. Third. At an unknown time and place, it appeared as though a vehicle had struck the victim’s front bumper, causing approximately $500 in damage.


10/19: Officer responded to the Ballard High School for a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot. A vehicle operated by a Huxley juvenile struck a vehicle operated by a Slater driver, causing approximately $6,500 in damage. No injuries. Officer responded to the 500 block of E. First for a dog bite. The dog was transported to the vet in Slater. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.


10/20: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on E. First Near Highway 69. The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old Bloomfield man, was barred and had a warrant for his arrest. He was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada.


10/22: Officer received a report of a domestic issue between a juvenile female and her stepfather at the 500 block of E. Fourth Street. The daughter, with permission from her biological mother, elected to stay with a friend over night.


10/23: Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 69 near Main Ave. A vehicle operated by a Slater woman ran a red light and stuck a vehicle operated by a Huxley woman, causing approximately $9,000 in total damage and minor injuries. Officer responded to a hit-and-run accident at the Ballard High School parking lot. A vehicle belonging to a Slater student was struck while it was parked on the passenger side, causing approximately $500 in damage. Officer received a harassment complaint at the 100 block of National Drive. Contact was made with a 24-year-old Des Moines man, who agreed to stop the behavior in order to avoid future police attention.


10/24: Officer responded to a report of Criminal Mischief at the 200 block of Oak Blvd. A vehicle belonging to a Huxley woman had damage done to the windshield. No suspects at this time.


10/26: Officer responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 69 near E. Third Street. A vehicle operated by a Huxley woman was rearended by a vehicle operated by a Boone man, causing approximately $1,500 in total damage. No injuries.


10/28: Officer was asked to check the welfare on a Huxley resident at the 200 block of N. Third at the request of the resident’s parents. Contact was made and the Huxley female was transported to the hospital for treatment.


10/29: Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 69 near E. Third Street. The driver of the vehicle, a 27-year-old Des Moines woman, was arrested for OWI 1st. She was transported to the Story County Jail in Nevada. Officer responded to a report of Criminal Mischief at the 200 block of Oak Blvd. A Huxley resident had two tires slashed on the passenger side of her vehicle.


Huxley officers had two arrests for the month; one was for Driving While Barred and the other for OWI. There was also one arrest warrant served and an .02 violation served. Officers issued 20 citations for traffic violations, gave 58 warnings, received 110 calls for service and had a total of 320 contacts for the month. Officers used 234 hours toward investigations, answering calls or providing service, and gave 400 hours of general patrol.
