WAYLAND — In her 19th year of teaching, Renea Reichenbach, who teaches social studies at WACO Junior/Senior High School, last month received the Civil Rights/Civil Liberties: Excellence in Teaching Award at the Iowa Council for the Social Studies Conference.

Sponsored by Nystrom Education, the country's oldest publisher of wall maps and globes for classroom use, the award recognizes Iowa social studies educators for their ability to inspire students to be informed about civil rights and civil liberties assured by the Constitution, as well as to take action when they see injustices and be responsible contributing members of democracy.

The award included a plaque and $250.

Superintendent Jeff Dicks said Reichenbach was selected for the award for her "leadership, innovative teaching practices and tireless effort to promote social studies."

"Her dedication to the students of Iowa and to the teaching profession is appreciated," Dicks said.
