Happenings in Spartan Country

I believe fall has arrived, along with the falling temps, and that also means the Spartan winter sports will be starting up soon. There will certainly be a lot more home games now, and even a few in Collins. The girls’ JV and varsity teams will be starting off their season Nov. 17 against Woodward-Granger; the first game is at 6:30 p.m. at the Collins-Maxwell High School. Wear your Spartan colors and cheer them on.

The boys’ JV and varsity teams start later in the month, Nov. 28, at Colo-NESCO, the game starts at 5 p.m.

Please check the school calendar for the location of the junior high games, as some are at the Collins elementary gym and a couple are at the high school.

Wrestling will also be kicking off, too; their calendar is not complete yet. So far, the first meet will be Dec. 14 at North Polk.

Alumni basketball

And mentioning this now, but more information to come later… alumni basketball is BACK!! Everyone that participated last year had so much fun that the Collins-Maxwell Athletics Booster Club will again be hosting this action-packed event on Jan. 27, at the high school. Remember — just because you might not be an alumni of Collins, Maxwell or Collins-Maxwell, there is still a team for you, and it’s called “The Outsiders.” We will make room for all players, so plan on attending, or just bring your sneaks and play a little.

Other news

This Sunday at the MACC, the Maxwell EMS will be hosting its annual breakfast fundraiser. Serving at 7:30 a.m., they will have all your breakfast favorites. And I heard the Maxwell Mother’s Club will be donating two batches of their famous potatoes. That in itself is a good reason to come and enjoy breakfast for a free-will donation. Hope to see lots of people there.
