Public celebration set for credit union employees

Casebine Community Credit Union has announced Lavonne Fogle, Robyn Brown, and Lynda Hild have completed the CUNA Financial Counseling Program and are now Certified Credit Union Financial Councilors. A public celebration event will be 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17 at Burlington Public Library, 210 Court St., Meeting Room. There will be a presentation followed by coffee and cake.

Lee County Economic Development Group Receives International Award 

The Lee County Economic Development Group won a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for Grow Lee, a project in the category of Human Capital of the International Economic Development Council. The honor was presented at an awards ceremony Sept. 19 during the IEDC Annual Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Grow Lee is a Business Retention and Expansion project focused on growing and increasing the quality of Lee County’s Workforce. Developed by the Lee County EDG, Grow Lee has continued to provide innovative programs and solutions for our workforce issues. Grow Lee programs include, uptraining the existing workforce, Lego robotics, apprenticeships, scholarships, externships and many other connections designed to help the residents of our county. “Starting in 2014 our organization brought together industries, schools, students, partner agencies and stakeholders to develop a new set of workforce initiatives.” COO Dennis Fraise said, “Each Grow Lee meeting is strategically designed to last 58 minutes.  A strategy of Data – Knowledge – Action has resonated with stakeholders and has created unprecedented collaboration between all the groups involved.”

Lee County EDG also received the award for BRE Overall Program for 2016 and 2017 from the Professional Developers of Iowa. The award recognizes the outstanding efforts of local and regional economic development initiatives in supporting growth and expansion of existing Iowa companies.

Vandiver receives state award for long-term care activities

Amy Vandiver received the Excellence in Long-term Services and Supports Activity Services Award from the Iowa Health Care Association. She is the Life Enhancement supervisor at Great River Klein Center.

In her 16 years at the Klein Center, Amy has reinvented the activities program. One program she initiated was Klein University, a summer school program for residents. The residents help choose the subjects, and guest lecturers and Vandiver teaches the courses concluding with a graduation ceremony.

She also established the Sunshine Club, whose membership and leadership consists of resident. Its mission is to raise money for activities and services supporting the group’s motto: brighten someone’s day.

Garcia honored with state Excellence Award

Mandi Garcia received the Distinguished Director of Nursing Excellence in Long-term Services and Supports Activity Services Awards from the Iowa Health Care Association. The Excellence in LTSS Awards recognize individuals’ expertise, service and commitment to quality in their long term services and supports professions.

Zwanziger joins Neurology & Sleep Clinic

Becky Zwanziger is on the staff of the Burlington Neurology & Sleep Clinic. Zwanziger joins Anil Dhuna, M.D., Jugal Raval, M.D. , Spriha Pavuluri, M.D., and Kelley Dawley, ARNP, in providing neurological evaluation and treatment in the areas of Alzheimer’s Disease, Chronic Migraines and Sleep Disorders as well as seeing other neurological conditions including stable Epilepsy patients and working closely with Dhuna at Great River Medical Center with the Inpatient Rehabilitation Team.

Zwanziger has been in practice for more than 5 years. Her career includes several years in the areas of Cardiology, Urgent Care and Family Medicine. Becky completed her ARNP at Allen College specializing in Acute Care.

Schier becomes Cray Law Firm Partner

Joshua P. Schier has become a Partner of the law firm of the Cray Law Firm, PLC. The firm was established 1924. Schier is a 1998 graduate of Notre Dame High School; a 2003 Bachelor of Arts and 2005 Master of Arts graduate of Western Illinois University; and a 2014 graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law. Mr. Schier’s works in General Practice, with an emphasis in Business, Criminal, Family, Juvenile and Municipal Law.
