The final fundraising amount will be calculated on Sept. 29, but as of last Thursday, during the culminating activities of the Ballard Ninja Warrior Fundraiser, which is raising funds to build playgrounds at both Ballard elementary schools, $12,000 had already been counted by organizers. The new-this-year fundraiser, which had elementary students getting “sponsorship dollars” to run the Ninja course, was very successful, according to its PTA organizers. Meaningful to the students was that no matter how much each child raised, every child was allowed to run the multi-obstacle course in the final celebration event. Held at the end of last week, when temperatures were in the high 80s to low 90s, the fact that every child was given a popsicle at the end of the race was welcomed by all. We caught up to students in a couple fifth-grade classes as they were taking their turn on the course — the obstacles for which were built by volunteers and will be saved for future Ninja Warrior fundraisers. A photo gallery of two of the fifth-grade classes is on the Tri-County Times Facebook page.
