Urban Renewal Presentations
The board also heard from community leaders representing four different Story County cities that have each applied for a grant from the county through its Urban Renewal Area’s program, which uses tax increment financing to economic development projects. The four cities included Cambridge, Gilbert, Slater and Story City. The project costs for each city varied between $45,000 and $94,500. The supervisors only listened to the proposed plans Tuesday. A decision to award the funding will come later in the year.
Couser Cattle Permit
During Tuesday’s meeting of the Story County Board of Supervisors, the board discussed a construction permit application, along with DNR recommendations, for an animal feeding operation owned by the Couser Cattle Company. The application involved Couser going to a no-till farming practice. Following a discussion with the board, the supervisors used the county’s master matrix scoring system to evaluate the changes being proposed and recommended to the DNR that they approve the application filed by Couser.
In a previous meeting, the board of supervisors received several bids from contractors vying for the opportunity to be involved with construction work to be done at the Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor. Tuesday, the board approved a contract with Peterson Contractors, Inc. in the amount of $810,379.50 for the first phase of work to be done at the Tedesco Corridor.
