The Polk Soil and Water Conservation District commissioners presented their annual awards during the Polk County Fair on Wednesday, July 19, at the 4-H Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Polk City area residents Aaron and Nicole Lehman received the 2017 Conservation Farmer of the Year award.

The Lehmans farm several tracts in Lincoln Township, located predominantly in the Fourmile Creek Watershed. They have implemented numerous conservation practices and are starting to convert their farm to extended rotation organic crops. The Lehmans have increased the diversity of their crops, which helps in the reduction of pest and disease problems. They work to promote conservation and innovative farming throughout the community by hosting field days and staying active in various organizations.
