There is a phrase that we have in our household, passed down from my husband’s aunt, we will call her Aunt Bunny for security purposes, but we do use it quite often; on a night when you get home from work, sports activities or any other type of commitment that kept you away from cooking a meal at the normal time…. we say it’s a “I ain’t cookin night!”
Now don’t get me wrong, I actually do like to cook a lot and prefer to cook during the week, but let’s face it, sometimes it’s just not possible with crazy schedules. And when you live in a small town, options are very limited, so when something new changes in town, we have lots of happy townspeople.
We have been very lucky for several years to have a Casey’s in town that serves pizza, I know for lots of people after a night of sports it is a MUST stop place to get supper. A few years ago ,Pizza Ranch and George’s Pizza started making deliveries to Maxwell and it seemed like a whole new world opened up for our town! We could get pizza…. DELIVERED! Yes, things like this for a small town are pretty big; we do get excited for stuff like this, and no we don’t want to move to a bigger town where all these things are more readily available. We live in our small town for a reason.
This past month we had another announcement for Maxwell, and it couldn’t have come at a better time with all the hot temps either. Pals, owned by Randy and Julie Pritchard, has been doing some remodeling the past few months and making some changes inside their building and they are very excited to start showing everything off to their patrons. The renovations are just the small part, for most people the excitement happened when the sign out front said ICE CREAM!
There are a lot of people not real familiar with Pals or have ever been inside. Most thought it was just a bar, but for my family and some others, they have known for years it was anything BUT a bar. Even before they started serving pizza, Pals has always been a family-friendly place. In a small town with not many other options in town for a place to meet and have a drink, and that is either alcoholic or non-alcoholic, places like Pals sometimes have to be a little bit more “user friendly,” and that is just what Pals has been.
Kids have always been welcome there and they will even play a game of pool or two, have a cold pop or just sit and chat for a bit.
Randy and Julie decided to change up the place a little bit after hearing the news about our town sports team changing names. And if anyone knows Randy (Pal), at all, he doesn’t do anything halfway! Take a look at his work at the freedom rock site, and his own backyard is a dream oasis. So when they commit to something, the Pritchard’s get it done right.
New paint, flooring, paint outside too, and this past week all the front lawn and parking lot have been getting re-done.
The biggest change, besides adding ice cream to the menu — on the north side of the building they added a walk-up window. There, you are able to come and order an ice cream creation, and oh, you HAVE to taste some of them, they are amazing, and you can also walk up and pick up a take-out order. Randy recently added an online app to order and arrange a time to pick the treat up.
Palsgrabandgo.com is the site, and it’s very easy to walk through and order on your phone or computer. The menu has recently been updated too, adding a few more appetizer options, and even adding dinners. Yes, you can even order your ice cream on line too; they just will get it ready when you arrive.
They will be having a Grand Opening/Open House on Sunday July 30. They will have baby goats for the kids, from 3-5 p.m., and a special entertainer from Cozumel from 5-8 p.m. They will be giving away a free small cone or dish token all day with any ice cream purchase.
So the next night you have an “I ain’t cookin night!,” try Pals and go see all the new things Randy and Julie have done. They will be happy to see new faces, and the familiar faces as well; they welcome in everyone with a smile.
