Join us the first Thursday of the month. Bring a friend and let’s have some fun! Bring your own cribbage board or use ours and all levels are welcome.

Friends of the Library Meeting, Wednesday, July 12, 6:30 p.m.


The Friends of the Polk City Community Library have four scheduled meetings per year. All meetings are open to members and the public. Anyone interested in supporting the library is welcome and encouraged to attend!


Blank Park Zoo Animal Architects, Thursday, July 13, 10:30 a.m.


Just like us, animals live in different kinds of homes. Some prefer a hole in the ground, while others build nests high in the trees. It takes special skills and adaptations to build the perfect home in the wild. Join a Blank Park Zoo educator and four animals from the zoo’s education department to talk about everyone’s favorite place – home!


Adult Coloring, Thursday, July 13, 6 p.m.


Join us for a RELAXING evening. Coloring pages from books designed especially for adults, as well as colored pencils will be provided. You are also welcome to bring your own! 18 and older, or 16-17 when accompanied by an adult.

Friends of the Library “Toss It To Win It,” Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15


The Friends very successful ring toss (held on the Town Square) needs two-liter pop donations or monetary donations! Please make your donations at the Polk City Community Library by Thursday, July 13. All proceeds from the ring toss are used to enhance the Polk City Community Library facilities and their programs, plus matching donations to the library’s Electronic Sign fund.

Summer Reading Finale Block Party, Thursday, July 20, 11:30 a.m.


At 1 p.m., Victor Henigan, a Ragga Hopp musician and entertainer, will perform. This Jamaican artist presents an entertaining musical program for audiences of all ages. Lots of audience participation.


Human Trafficking: An Iowa Perspective, Thursday. July 20, 7 p.m.


Presenters from Teens Against Human Trafficking will introduce attendees to human trafficking in Iowa, with a focus on the youth perspective. Attendees will learn about the process of recruitment, grooming and control, and what indicators may point to human trafficking. Attendees will also learn what risk factors make young people more vulnerable to trafficking. Finally, speakers will describe efforts to prevent human trafficking and identify victims in our schools and what services are available for victims. Ages 15 and over welcome to attend.

On “Bag Day,” buy an entire bag of books for $5. Friends of the Library book sale include books, puzzles, CDs, and DVDs for sale. Cash or Check ONLY — no credit cards. The Book Sale also includes a Bake Sale. Please bring baked goodies to sell (cookies, bars, cakes, scones, breads and candy). Baked goods can be brought to the library starting Wednesday evening
