Students attending Collins-Maxwell Elementary will have at least one reason to look forward to going back to school. The school’s group Partners in Education (PIE), have purchased a new playground for the students.
Partners in Education is a group which helps provide and raises money for items in the school. Some of the items previously purchased include a rock climbing wall, iPads for students and music equipment for the music department.
Chad Grandon, the principal of Collins-Maxwell Elementary, said he is thankful for the volunteer work from PIE and the rest of the community.
The city of Collins helped move all the rock and level the ground for the build site and local farmer, Dave Struthers, dug the holes.
“It’s been fun to watch the community help out where they can,” Grandon said. “It took a lot of volunteer time.”
Grandon said the previous playground structure was about 25 to 30 years old and had been leaning quite a bit due to being moved numerous times.
“It was just time to start replacing and updating things,” Grandon said.
