Huxley Police Chief Mark Pote and Officer Joe Machesano were shocked when they saw the donation being made to the Huxley Police Department by Gabbie Ford and her family.
The check for $4,473.27 was way more than they ever imagined.
It was more than Gabbie Ford expected to raise when she set out to sell shirts to students and staff in the Ballard Schools and to members of the Huxley area community.
The shirts, designed by her mother, Teresa Ford, were meant as a way to show support for local law enforcement and all they do for the residents they serve.
Gabbie Ford was prompted to do something as a response after two officers were ambushed in Des Moines, among other news that was not so positive for police officers.
In support of what she was doing, over 500 shirts, in sizes from toddler to 5XL were sold, most at a cost of $15 each.
“My goal was to raise $1,000,” Gabbie said, so of course, she was as happy to present a check for way more than that as the Huxley Police Department was to accept it.
This money, Pote said, will go toward things that aren’t covered in the regular budget, such as more Tasers, computers in the cars and maybe an AED defibrillator.
Both the Huxley Police Department and members of the Ford family wish to thank all members of the community and the schools for their support of this fundraising effort to help local police in the important work they do.
