The Collins-Maxwell Athletic Boosters held their first annual tailgate party last Saturday night at the Maxwell Community Center. This was their second large fundraiser to help the school with the purchase of all new uniforms for when they switch to the new team name of the Spartans this fall. Back in January, they held an alumni basketball game and had great success with their kickoff for new sponsors — they raised a little over $22,000 at that one. Some more sponsorship’s have come in since then, along with some smaller fundraisers, and before last Saturday, the new Booster club was happy to post they had taken in over $26,000.

Last Saturday night was a casual event, complete with tailgate food, bean bag toss games in the parking lot, and even the new school mascot, Leo, made an appearance. Booster members organized a silent and live auction that started right after dinner, and the bidding was fun — but for a few items was very competitive! One of the items that brought in the most money was a handmade bench that had a 1972 Chevrolet tailgate for the back. Afterwards, guests enjoyed music and just talking with everyone. And when the Boosters posted their grand total for the evening, it was $20,000. Great support by everyone, and these monies will be going to the school for purchasing spring uniforms for the 2018 sports. The school has already purchased fall uniforms and they were on display that evening as well.
