On May 2, the Healthiest State Initiative will host its third annual conference in Ames to bring Iowans together to learn about community and workplace strategies that are proven to increase health and well-being. This year’s conference, presented by Hy-Vee, has the theme of “Eat Well. Move More. Feel Better.”

Structured to be engaging and interactive, the conference includes two dynamic keynote speakers and six different breakout sessions focused on this year’s theme.

Philip Bors, technical assistance director at Active Living by Design, will open the day by engaging the attendees in a discussion to support advancing health through collaborative active living and food access strategies with an emphasis on health equality. Active Living by Design, based out of North Carolina, works with communities to improve health through the power of people to reshape the places where they live and the policies, systems and environments that define their choices.

Recognizing the critical role emotional well-being plays in our overall health attendees won’t want to miss the luncheon keynote speaker, John Coyle, an Olympic medalist and resiliency expert. John is one of the world’s leading experts in resiliency and design thinking, as well as being an NBC Sports analyst, two-time TEDx presenter, and author. John will speak on resiliency, and how to draw on your own natural strengths to flourish in the face of adversity.

“This year’s conference aligns with our mission statement of not only improving on physical well-being but, also the social and emotional well-being of all Iowans,” explains Jami Haberl, executive director of Iowa Healthiest State Initiative. “We are incredibly excited to bring John Coyle and his amazing TEDx-style talk to Iowa. Overall, the day we have planned for our attendees will be impactful, with a number of takeaways and opportunities to take action.”
