On March 29, 25 sixth-grade North Polk students participated in National History Day at Central College in Pella. These students selected a person or event in history, did extensive research, created a project and then presented it to the judges at the competition. Three groups were awarded honorable mention. They were Aidan Kelsick for his website about Helen Taussig; Lesl Schoenberg and Cora Reed for their performance about Lewis Hine and Kamryn Hilsabeck, Jadyn Halupnick, and Allison Hurt for their exhibit about Eleanor Roosevelt. These students also earned special awards:. Kiara Jesse and Maddie Bond were recognized for Superior Knowledge of the Topic and Angel Lindell was recognized for Outstanding Use of a Local Topic.
