An event honoring those who serve the city of Slater was held at the Log Cabin in Slater Monday night, Dec. 9.
The first event of its kind, organized and led by Howard Hammond, brought together city government, employees, leaders and volunteers to recognize them for their service. During the program, Hammond presented Mayor Gary Halverson with a commemorative gavel marking the city’s 125th anniversary. Guests also enjoyed a home-cooked meal prepared by Martha Sieverson. The City Council meeting immediately followed and Mayor Halverson and City Councilwomen Susan Erickson and Ann Munson were sworn in. Gene Staples was also recognized for his 16 years of service.
