Who would have thought a meal of seafood would once again become one of the biggest annual fundraisers at the American Legion in Polk City? The events committee at the American Legion did! The 17th Annual Lobsterfest, held on Saturday, Aug. 24, was a sold-out event. There were 500 lobster dinner tickets sold and many more people came to enjoy themselves for an afternoon of activities and entertainment that lasted into the night under the big tent outside the Legion. The sell-out crowd was treated to a 1 ½ lb lobster, baked potato, corn on the cob and a roll prepared by Legion members. The North Polk cheerleaders also raised money at the event by cleaning tables and trays during the dinner service. The event included a horseshoe tournament, beer garden, 50/50 raffle and music by Nice Bangs, which was enjoyed by all.
"Thanks to all that attended this year’s Lobsterfest; your generosity and support was a basis for this successful event. A special ‘Thanks!’ to all that volunteered, we made it happen thanks to you," said Carol Easter, events committee member.
If you weren’t able to make it, you’re in luck because it will be back again next year. The date is set for Aug. 23, 2014 - mark your calendars and make plans to attend. We are looking forward to another great Lobsterfest next year!
