The United Way of Story County (UWSC) board of directors has approved grants to be funded through the proceeds of the 2013 UWSC Golf Fore Kids event, held in August. Twenty-two proposals were received from Story County nonprofit agencies and 15 were approved for funding, totaling $18,773.

"We appreciate the support of the golfers and business sponsors who helped make this year’s golf event a success," said Kurt Jensen, co-chair of the Golf Fore Kids committee. "It’s always a great day of fun, and the proceeds will help many kids and families throughout Story County."

Dan Devine, director of residential services for Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) said, "We’re so thankful to be a recipient of the Golf Fore Kids grant from United Way of Story County. At LSI’s Beloit Residential Treatment Center, we serve children with behavioral or mental health challenges, often due to abuse or neglect, who have faced tremendous instability in their lives. This grant funds our summer school program for these kids, giving them new opportunities for learning and growth that will help them reach their bright potential."
