#233 American Legion Auxiliary Met Nov. 7

The regular meeting of the Mathis-Wire #233 American Legion Auxiliary met Nov. 7, at 1 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Wilma Jean Longnecker and Beverly Dory served as co-hostesses.

Chaplain Bonnie Severson gave the prayer. President Jo Ann Clark opened the meeting in form. She thanked Wilma and Bev for the pretty tables and help.

Twelve members answered roll call with 129 hours of volunteer service. Minutes were read and one correction was made - Christmas gifts are for not only parents, but the whole family. The minutes were approved. Treasurer report read and filed for audit.

A supermarket of Veterans’ benefits was held on Nov. 8, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Moose Lodge, 644 W. 190th, north of Ames on Highway 69. This is hosted for all veterans by Boone County and Story County.

A check was given by the Legion to Auxiliary for helping at the fish fry.

A motion was made by Pam Messer and seconded by Wilma Jean for our unit to send two girls to Girls’ State in June unless one girl can’t attend. Motion passed. Registration is due Dec. 1.

Poppies for distribution have been ordered.

Our membership is 31 seniors and one junior.

Sandy Plager told of visiting the World War I Museum in Kansas City this summer and what a wonderful place it is to see. There is a glass floor, and under it is a floor of poppies.

President would like an article put in the Sun telling the story about the poppies.

A work day for making activity bags will be Feb. 4. Think of speakers you’d like to come to our meetings in the spring.

The next meeting is Dec. 3, at 12:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Jo Ann Clark will host with a Christmas luncheon. Please let her know if you have invited a guest who might become a member in the future. This should be a fun day.

President closed the meeting in form. Bonnie gave the closing prayer. A delicious lunch was served.
