‘Finding Your German Ancestors’
Scharlott Blevin, founder of the German American Heritage Center in Davenport, is our Genealogy Plus! guest speaker on Wednesday April 18, 10 a.m. to noon at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave. For those who have German ancestors, understanding how to find information can be daunting. She will help us understand the records in the U.S. and abroad, types of data available and what those records tell us.
Scharlott Goettsch Blevins has been lecturing on and teaching genealogy for over 40 years. She is a founder and first president of the German American Heritage Center, former president of the Federation of Genealogical Societies; former Chair of the State Historical Society of Iowa Board of Trustees; former president Iowa Genealogical Societies; served on Commission on Soviet American Archival Cooperation and served on committee for the “Independence of the National Archives and selection of the Archivist of the United States.” Her expertise includes German transliteration and research.
The program is free and open to the public.
