Author to speak in Ames

Linda Betsinger McCann will speak at the Ames Library on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., about her newest book, “The Civilian Conservation Corps in Northeast Iowa.” Everyone is invited and there is no admission charge. The CCC was a federal program to assist young men in supporting their families, and to rejuvenate the soil and natural resources. There were about 50 camps in Iowa and about 50,000 men were in the CCC from Iowa. Linda has spoke with 16 men who were in the CCC and shares their stories. Linda has had 10 books published by The Iowan Books, all detailing aspects of Iowa history. She will have all her books available at this event. Linda is still searching for more men to speak with, as she is researching the remainder of the state. She will have more books out on the CCC as she is able to research and write them. She can be reached at losttownsofiowa@gmail.com.
