It is sponsored by Maxwell United Methodist Church.

Celebrate Christmas in Slater

The Slater community will have its annual Christmas On Main celebration this Sunday afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m. Enjoy brats, hotdogs, burgers, chips, S’mores, cookies, hot apple cider and coffee. Visit Santa and Mrs Claus for a treat. Enjoy horse-drawn wagon rides, silent auction for gift baskets, movies, crafts and reader’s theater at the library. The tree lighting will occur at 5:15, followed by fireworks.

Holiday concert

The Ballard Community Performing Arts Association (BCPAA) invites you to its annual Holiday Wonders performance on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Ballard High School Auditorium, 709 Ballard Dr., Huxley. This will be the BCPAA’s 25th Annual Holiday Concert. In celebration of 25 years, former members are invited to join us. Free admission and holiday refreshments will be provided.

Doings at the Arboretum

On Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m.-noon, Dad’s Belgian Waffles returns to the Arboretum to serve mammoth-sized waffles that will fill your plate and satisfy your appetite. See wonderfully Iowa-grown and decorated Christmas trees. Santa will be flying in from the North Pole to make a guest appearance. A great event for the entire family. The fee is $9; children 5 and younger are free.

In addition, on Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to noon, there will be an Evergreen Centerpiece Workshop offered. In this make-and-take class, participants will use fresh-cut greens to create a tabletop arrangement that will last well into the new year. Sandy Gossman will teach you how to distinguish between different kinds of evergreens, how to use floral wet foam, wrap, picks and wire while producing the perfect centerpiece for your table. The fee is $25 members and $30 nonmembers.
