Collins tractor ride
The 15th Annual Go CAPOOT Tractor Ride will be Sunday, Sept. 10. Registration starts at 1 p.m. in the Community Center on Main Street in Collins. Riders leave at 2 on either a 12 m.p.h.or 15 m.p.h. route. The $20 fee includes a meal, prepared by the Collins Christian youth group. The public is welcome to come eat, starting at 5:30 p.m. Riders return around 6. Loaner tractors are available; call Dave Struthers at 515-231-7955 for more information.
Monarch Migration Madness
A free program will be given Sunday, Sept. 10, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at McFarland Park about Monarchs. Each year, these tiny creatures fly all the way to Mexico for the winter. Presenters will talk about why Monarchs do this, play a game with participants and help you catch some Monarchs that are passing through. Lake Restoration Project meeting
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, an important meeting is being held at Hickory Grove Park in the Oriole Ridge Lodge, 67466 250th St., Colo, starting at 6:30 p.m. Park users, county residents, outdoor enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in water quality, watershed management or improved angling and other outdoor recreation opportunities will likely want to attend. The Hickory Grove Lake Restoration public meeting is a great opportunity for anyone to learn about this first-of-its-kind in Story County watershed project.
West Coast hip-hop group Warm Brew will perform at the The Maintenance Shop (M-Shop) on the ISU campus on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m. Warm Brew is inspired by artists like A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul and the trio has been developing its sound since 2009. Their debut album Natural Spirit, featuring the single “Doin’ It Right,” was released in 2010. They released additional albums of their funky, chilled-out sound, in the following years, including their most recent LP, Ghetto Beach Boyz, in 2015, and have been rapidly gaining a national fan-base. Tickets are $12 for the general public; $8 for ISU students with their ID.
