Paint Your Own Pottery: Mug Night
“We like big cups and we cannot lie!” From traditional coffee mugs to ones shaped like owls and elephants, the Workspace at Iowa State has mugs of all sizes and styles. On Friday, Sept. 1, from 4-8 p.m., they will show you the basics of painting your piece and firing it within a week. Studio fee is $4 for those with ISU and $5 for the public to attend, plus the cost of the bisque you select. This activity is open to all ages if accompanied by an adult.
Candidate Forum for North Polk
The Polk City Chamber & Economic Development Corporation is holding a candidate forum for the North Polk School District board candidates on Sept. 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Polk City Community Room. All residents are invited to attend to meet the candidates and learn their positions on the issues.
Hammered Silver Earrings
Learn some basics of metalworking by making a pair of sterling silver earrings. Terrie Hoefer will lead a workshop at the Workspace at ISU on Thursday, Sept. 7, from 6-9 p.m. Hammer silver into slender rectangles about 1.5 inches long and create texture that catches the light. Add a bright copper rivet and finish on sterling silver ear wires. Cost is $30 for those with ISU; $40 for the general public.
