The Story County Fair officially starts in Nevada this Friday, July 21. Food stands will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m., featuring great food like homemade pie. Shows on Friday will be horse shows, starting at 2 and 3:30 that afternoon. Exhibit halls will open Saturday morning at 9. Saturday evening will feature the 4-H BBQ, sponsored by the Story County Co-ops and coronation of the Story County Fair Queen at 7 p.m. in the Dueland Pavilion. The fair runs through Wednesday, July 26, and a full schedule can be found at www.storycountyfair.com.
Alleman residents are invited to attend the Alleman Community Picnic this Saturday evening, July 22, from 5-8 p.m. The picnic will be held at the Alleman Estates. Everyone is asked to bring their own beverage and a side to share.
Let’s talk genealogy
Have you hit a brick wall or stumbling block with your genealogy research? Story County Genealogy Society volunteers are ready to lend assistance. Bring your genealogy questions and problems to this help session and the volunteers will assist you with ideas and suggestions that may help you overcome the inevitable hurdles. Please bring any research you have done on your particular genealogy problem.

Polk City Library book sale
Friends of the Polk City Community Library will hold its annual summer book sale Thursday, July 27 through Saturday, July 29 at the library. Book donations are accepted. All area residents are invited to attend the sale and pick up some great bargains. Hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m., Thursday; 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday.
