The popular K-3 Reading Buddies program (sponsored by Raising Readers in Story County) is expanding to Nevada this summer, as a recent story in the Tri-County Times and Nevada Journal announced.

Trained volunteer tutors meet one-on-one with young readers to prevent summer learning loss and help children become even better readers. These pairs meet for 45 minutes, two times a week for six weeks, from June 19–Aug. 3 (but not the week of July 3-7). Nevada First United Methodist Church is hosting the afternoon site (1-3 p.m.) and Story Medical is hosting the evening sessions (5:30-7:30 p.m.).

Since this is an expansion of K-3 Reading Buddies, a whole new pool of volunteer tutors is needed to match the number of interested households and young readers in Nevada.

An informational meeting for prospective volunteer tutors will be held at Nevada First United Methodist Church (1036 Seventh St.) on Sunday evening, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. Leadership from Raising Readers in Story County will be on-hand to share details about K-3 Reading Buddies and provide information about volunteer training.
