Ariel Curtis, a senior majoring in journalism and mass communication and minoring in English at Iowa State University, has begun a summer internship with the Nevada Journal and Tri-County Times. Curtis, 21, has lived in Polk City for most of her life. When she isn’t living in Ames during the school year, she lives in Polk City with her parents and her dachshund, Rascal.

As an intern with the local newspapers, Curtis will help with stories, photos and other responsibilities. Following this experience, she hopes to pursue a career in copy editing. Previously, she has worked for the DMACC Ankeny Campus Chronicle, as well as the Iowa State Daily. Curtis grew up around journalism; her dad has published his own newspaper since she was 3 years old.

Curtis describes herself as an adventurous person who enjoys dancing, cheerleading, playing soccer, exploring the outdoors and going to concerts in her free time. Besides journalism, her passion is taking care of animals. She also works as a pet sitter, house sitter and nanny.
