To the editor:
The Nevada 4th of July committee is seeking another group to organize the 4th of July parade and any related activities. The committee, with only five volunteer members serving from 5 years to nearly 20 years, has decided to discontinue the parade organization responsibilities due to family and other responsibilities; but will continue fundraising activities throughout the year that contribute additional funds for Nevada’s fireworks display. Over the past five years the small committee, with support from Nevada’s community members and businesses, has added $8,495 to the City’s annual fireworks contribution; greatly enhancing the annual display.
We truly appreciate your support each year; and were especially proud and humbled at how many of you were sitting along the parade route the year it was pouring down rain! The 4th of July (Independence Day) is purposely set aside for us to honor and show appreciation for our liberties and how we got them; a day to highlight our patriotism and respect, while spending time with family and friends. Our committee is asking for a civic organization, business, church group, or a group of individuals to consider a little pre-planning and about an hour and a half of your time on July 4th to register and line up our small but patriotic parade. If interested, contact Michelle Fullerton at 515-290-0783, or Kendra McCauley at 515-231-0265.
Thank you again for your ongoing support.
